I’m not crying… someone just dusted a vampire in my eye, that’s all.
"Giles, I'm sixteen years old. I don't wanna die."
Buffy: I don't care! I don't care. Giles, I'm sixteen years old. I don't wanna die. (Season 1, Episode 12, “Prophecy Girl”)
A cruel reminder of the slayer's life. Buffy's 16 – she should be out with her friends, not risking her life to save the world. Yes, Buffy has super powers, but she also has the hopes and dreams of any other 16-year-old: she wants to live. And this tearful reminder of her mortality is chilling to say the least.

"Without passion…we’d be truly dead."
Angelus: Passion…it lies in all of us. Sleeping. Waiting. And though unwanted, unbidden…It will stir…Open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us, guides us. Passion rules us all and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love…the clarity of hatred…and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we’d know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms: shuttered and dank. Without passion…we’d be truly dead. (Season 2, Episode 17, “Passion”)
CRUEL. Whedon's well-renowned for killing off beloved characters, but the death of Jenny Calendar may have over-stepped the mark. "What makes it so unsettling?", you ask. Well, I'll tell you: Angelus' monologue. Seriously disturbing.

"I don't understand. I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this."
Anya: I don't understand. I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's, there's just a body, and I don't understand why she can't just get back in it and not be dead any more. It's stupid. It's mortal and stupid, and, and Xander's crying and not talking, and I was having fruit punch and I thought, well, Joyce will never have any more fruit punch, ever. And she'll never have eggs, or yawn, or brush her hair, not ever and no one will explain to me why. (Season 5, Episode 16, “The Body”)
This moment is truly, truly heartbreaking. Anya's tough and hilarious and always the first to be sarcastic about everything…yet here she cracks. And it's such a human response.

"Dawn, the hardest thing in this world — is to live in it."
Buffy: Dawn, listen to me, listen. I love you. I will always love you. But this is the work that I have to do. Tell Giles...tell Giles I figured it out. And, and I'm okay. And give my love to my friends. You have to take care of them now. You have to take care of each other. You have to be strong. Dawn, the hardest thing in this world — is to live in it. Be brave. Live...for me. (Season 5, Episode 22, “The Gift”)
Perhaps Buffy's most heroic moment, this tearful speech shows Buffy's unconditional love for those who are dear to her. A beautiful monologue, complete with the iconic cruciform dive.
